With auditions over and Bootcamp filming complete, today PBS the Maltese broadcaster has revealed the air date for the second season of X Factor Malta. Next month on Sunday October 6th, Malta’s biggest TV series returns to screens.
X Factor Malta Season 2
Earlier today Malta confirmed on social media that the broadcast for season 2 of the X Factor Malta would start on October 6th. Thus if this season follows the same pattern as the first, then a likely date for the final could be January 25th 2020.
What to expect from this season?
After the huge success of the first season, this year follows the tried and true – if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. Again the same judging panel returns. The Eurovision expertise and industry experience of Malta’s most famous export, Ira Losco. Alongside her, music manager Howard Keith Debono, legendary rocker Ray Mercieca and of course songstress and Rotterdam resident, Alexandra Alden. The latter becoming a fan favourite with her feisty spirit. Also returning is popular Maltese presenter, Ben Camille.
Currently the audition and Bootcamp stages of the popular reality singing competition have been completed. Not much is known about which familiar acts of Eurovision and MESC might have taken the plunge. But one popular name has been rumoured. Recently it has been speculated that Malta’s Junior Eurovision 2015 winner, Destiny Chukunyere auditioned. Later this month the competition will hot up with the dreaded Chair Challenge. Where the judges get another step closer to deciding the acts they will be mentoring in the Live Shows.
However it is currently unknown if this will be the format to choose Malta’s entrant for Eurovision 2020 in Rotterdam.
Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest
Malta first entered the Eurovision Song Contest in 1971 when they sent ‘Marija I-Maltija’ by Joe Grech, finishing in last place. After a fifteen year hiatus, Malta experienced a long stretch of success in the 1990s and early 2000s. Their best placing to date is 2nd, achieved in 2002 by Ira Losco with ‘7th Wonder’ and by Chiara with ‘Angel’ in 2005. Back in January Michela Pace wowed audiences across Malta and won the first series of X Factor Malta. Thus it was on her young shoulders to represent the tiny nation in Tel Aviv. Following work with the Symphonix team, she settled on the tropical banger ‘Chameleon’. During the contest Michela opened the Grand Final and finished in 14th with 107 points.
