Yesterday, North Macedonian broadcaster MKRTV confirmed to esctoday that North Macedonia will participate in next years contest in the Netherlands. By doing so, North Macedonia joins the list of countries who confirmed their participation, bringing the number of participating countries up to 26.

However, MKRTV is yet to announce their method of choosing a representative for Rotterdam. Further details for their Eurovision 2020 plans will be released in the future.

North Macedonias at the Eurovision Song Contest

North Macedonia, formerly participating as the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (F.Y.R. Macedonia), has participated in the contest 19 times. After an unsuccessful attempt in 1996, they officially debuted at the 1998 contest with Vlado Janevski’s “Ne zori, zoro”.

North Macedonia was previously one of the most unlucky countries in the contest. After 18 appearances, they were yet to crack the top 10. Before 2019, their best result was Elena Risteska’s 12th-place finish in 2006 with “Ninanajna”. Their most recent Grand Final appearance was with Kaliopi’s “Crno i belo” in 2012, which finished 13th.

Last year, they were represented by Eye Cue with the song “Lost & Found”. Despite being popular with fans prior to the contest, the song did not qualify for the Grand Final in Lisbon.

This year, their fortunes changed after internally-selected Tamara brought them an unprecedented level of success. She managed to deliver North Macedonia’s best result to date in Tel Aviv by placing 7th overall in the Grand Final. This is after she won the Jury vote with 247 Points. She finished with 305 points overall.

Are you happy about North Macedonias return in 2020? Do you think they can beat their result from Tel Aviv in Rotterdam?
