Iceland confirms for Eurovision 2020!

This morning RÚV officially confirmed their participation in the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam. They also announced dates and more regarding Söngvakeppnin 2020.

Iceland to take part in Rotterdam

RÚV just confirmed their participation in the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam. At the same time they also announced that the submission period started at 12 noon today, Icelandic time. If you are interested in representing Iceland at Eurovision next year, you must submit your entry no later than 23.59 on 17 October, also Icelandic time.

Thirty-third time lucky?

This will be Iceland’s 33rd attempt at winning the contest, since their debut in 1986. After a few years of rather depressing results, Hatari, who won Söngvakeppnin ahead of Friðrik Ómar, finished top 10 in Tel Aviv with their “Hatrið mun sigra”. Will it be thirty-third time lucky for Iceland in The Netherlands in May?

Söngvakeppnin 2020 dates and format

The Icelandic entry will, per usual, be decided through the national final, Söngvakeppnin. In 2020 the country will select their entry through two semi-finals and a grand final. The semi-finals will take place on February 8th and 15th in Háskólabíó, with the final being hosted on February 29th in Laugardagshöll.

Who would you like to see representing Iceland in Rotterdam? Do you think they will ever win the contest? And would you have liked to see them win back in 1999 or 2009, when they finished second with “All Out of Luck”/”Is It True?”? Share your thought and opinions with us on social media @escxtra
