It may only be September but with Eurovision season underway, next year’s contest is already on the minds of many. BBC radio personality, Zoe Ball, believes one particular music duo would be the perfect act to take on the UK’s Eurovision hopes next year.
Electronic music duo Basement Jaxx, who consist of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe, visited the Radio 2 breakfast show earlier this month to premiere their new single Yodel Song. The track features vocals from Sofia Shkidchenko, who took part in the 2017 edition of Ukraine’s Got Talent with her impressive yodelling skills. Eagle eyed fans may also remember the fourteen year old from her participation in the country’s national selection for the 2017 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, in which she entered with the song YO DE LAY.
After their live performance of Yodel Song at the BBC Studios in London, also broadcast live on Zoe Ball’s Radio 2 breakfast show, the song has quickly gained a following. It has since become one of the most requested songs on the network this month.
Speaking on her show earlier this week Zoe and her team believed the collaboration would be perfect for the contest.
“It would be massive! We need to get onto Felix & Simon and enter that into Eurovision, it would be brilliant”.
Listeners were quick to agree with the campaign, calling for the duo to submit an interest in the competition.
The BBC are yet to reveal details on their plans for the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest. Since 2016, a national final has been used to select the UK’s artist and song.
The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show is broadcast weekday mornings between 06.30 – 9.00 on BBC Radio 2.
