NRK confirm a live audience for Melodi Grand Prix final

The final takes place on 19th February

Norwegian broadcaster, NRK, have confirmed that a live audience will be welcomed for the grand final of Melodi Grand Prix.

Following restrictions introduced in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, NRK had previously been unable to allow a live audience to attend any of the Melodi Grand Prix shows – both this year and in 2021. Newly updated guidelines in Norway has now given NRK the green light to re-introduce a live audience.

In order to prevent potential infection of production staff, no audience will be present for any of the shows prior to the grand final on 19th February. Approximately 500 people will be allowed inside the H3 Arena.

Stig Karlsen, head producer for Melodi Grand Prix, reacted to the news:

“The audience is a large and important part of a live TV show, and the audience adds an atmosphere and a feeling that has been sorely missed.”

Melodi Grand Prix continues tonight with the fourth semi final. The second chance round takes place next Saturday, where the last spot for the final will be filled.
