🇳🇱 Duncan Laurence confirmed as Dutch spokesperson for Eurovision 2021

With Eurovision 2021 rapidly approaching, it was only a matter of time until countries would begin to announce their spokespersons for the contest in Rotterdam. Spokespersons are the people who will announce their countries’ jury points in the Grand Final results. Every year, fans can anticipate seeing some past contestants or national final singers during the results, and this year is no exception as 2019 winner Duncan Laurence has been announced for The Netherlands!

Performing and giving points in the same night

Duncan Laurence won Eurovision 2019 with his song “Arcade”, bringing the contest back to The Netherlands for the first time in 44 years. Certainly, this means that the Dutch singer will be actively participating in this year’s contest, as old winners tend to make a return in the contest the following year. It has been confirmed that Duncan will be performing in the Grand Final of the contest this year on the 22nd of May. Fans can now look forward to this performance, and even more!

Songfestival.nl has reported that Duncan will be announcing the Dutch points live from Ahoy, Rotterdam. While in the past, the Dutch spokespersons were located in Hilversum or Amsterdam, the host city will now appear once again in the show. Duncan is not the first Dutch Eurovision act to announce the points: other names include 2017’s OG3NE, 2016’s Douwe Bob, and 1998 and 2007’s (and 2021 host) Edsilia Rombley!

With this announcement, Duncan joins a steadily increasing group of spokespersons from many participating countries. Last week, the actor from the famous Eurovision movie line “Play Ja Ja Ding” was announced as the Icelandic spokesperson, and other familiar names include Portugal’s 2020 representative Elisa, Sweden’s 1991 winner Carola, and 2019 host Lucy Ayoub for Israel.
