Despite only finishing in 16th place back in the 2012 contest in Baku, Ivi Adamou’s “La La Love” remains a fan favourite. The song is among one of the most-streamed Eurovision entries from Cyprus, if not the contest at large. With rumours swirling around her potential return to the contest in recent years, Ivi has expressed her interest in returning.
With her entry “La La Love” approaching 30 million streams on Spotify almost 10 years after the Baku contest, it is unsurprising that there have been rumours of a potential return for Ivi Adamou. She had allegedly been shortlisted by CyBC for the ill-fated 2020 contest, but declined due to the timing not being right.
However, in an interview with Real.gr, she has expressed her willingness to return to the contest in the future if the song and team are right:
It was a wonderful experience. I have been suggested several times. I think I will feel when the time is right. I want a very good song and a very strong team. Let’s see!
Ivi Adamou on a potential Eurovision return
As she is currently working on material with her partner and collaborator Michalis Kouinelis, alongside a new business, this may not materialise for 2022, but time will tell!
About Ivi Adamou
Ivi Adamou is a Cypriot singer from Agia Napa, currently living in Alexandroupoli, Greece. Following her participation on the second season of The X Factor Greece, she signed a deal with Sony Music Greece. In 2011, she was internally-selected to represent Cyprus at the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest in Baku. Following a three-song national final, “La La Love” was selected as her entry.
“La La Love” placed 16th with 65 points in the Grand Final. Following the contest, the song went on to chart across Europe, including number 1 on the Swedish Airplay chart. Almost a decade on, the song boasts over 28 million streams on Spotify and tens of millions of views on YouTube. She has gone on to release hits in Greece and Cyprus through Panik Records, notably the song “Diko Mou”.
Before the announcement of Elena Tsagrinou’s candidacy, Ivi was rumoured to be shortlisted by CyBC to return to the contest, along with Eleni Foureira and Helena Paparizou. It later transpired that she had declined the invitation due to her starting her family.
