Another night in Lithuania

Tonight LRT is airing the second heat of Lithuanian national selection. A number of returning artists are taking part again. Of 8 participating acts, 5 will be moving on to the next round and 3 will pack their bags and go home.

Jurgis Brūzga “Hold On”. Remembering Jurgis from last year, I have associated him with being old-fashioned. This time around he stepped it up and tried something a little more modern. It still lands as being mediocre though.
Ugnė Smile “You Don’t Know”. Ugnė participated last week with her band, but this time she’s all alone. Mixed feelings about this one, because I don’t think she’s ready to be solo. If you are a pop-rock lover ala prom band, this may be up your alley.
Lawreigna “Falling”. A newcomer Lawreigna stuck to Eurovision standards by singing a typical schlager like song. Vocals were shaky all throughout the song and it felt like Lawreigna couldn’t wait for the song to be over…
Ištvan Kvik & Ellada “Please Don’t Cry”. After Eurovision schlager here comes Eurovision duet. A Lithuanian gypsy singer invited a friend from Germany to sing this. I don’t know, for me this is lacking any oomph and ends up being blah.
Catrinah “Be Free”. This has fans already among international crowd. I don’t know, for me it’s kind of boring and goes nowhere. I guess it’s good vocally which saves it. Clearly inspired by Aminata’s success.
Eglė Jakštytė “Leisk Dar Būti” (Let Me Be). The only song in Lithuanian this year. This has some hairography going on! For me, this is the best one so far. Good vocals, slutty moves, what else do you need?
Valdas Lacko “Stay Tonight”. The first chords start and all I can think of is “In A Moment Like This”. This is your old fashioned circa 2005 song nobody wants to hear. Please stop.
Rūta Ščiogolevaitė “United”. Polina Gagarina pt. 2! That’s all I’m gonna say.
Final results: Rūta Ščiogolevaitė wins public and jury votes while Jurgis Brūzga, Lawreigna and Ugnė Smile go home.
