Bulgarian news portal, 24chasa.bg, has reported this morning that Bulgaria and BNT will return to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2020 following a year’s absence.
A sponsor is on board
According to the media outlet, the BNT general director has revealed that a sponsor will take care of Eurovision costs. This includes the participation fee, creating a song and accompanying music video, costumes, promoting the song abroad and even the travel costs for the Bulgarian delegation to The Netherlands in May.
An investment for culture
In recent years, Eurovision costs for BNT have generally amounted to approximately 200,000-250,000 euros. Nevertheless, the general director of BNT tells 24chasa.bg that this has surpassed 500,000 euros on occasion.
“Lots of people have money, but few invest in culture. That is why I am thankful that a sponsor has done that for BNT. This is not money that is wasted. Bulgaria has had a strong representation at Eurovision, so it is worth continuining that trend, and why not develop world-wide producer activity”

Ready to continue recent success?
Following three consecutive appearances in the Eurovision final, including two top 5 finishes courtesy of Poli Genova and Kristian Kostov, BNT were forced to pull out of the 2019 contest due to financial issues.
However, with a restructuring of the broadcaster and management board and a sponsor stumping up the cash, it seems that Bulgaria will be making their return to the world’s biggest entertainment show in 2020.
