The broadcaster that is responsible for the participation of Czech Republic at the Eurovision Song Contest – Ceska Televize has announced that Cyril Hirsch will now lead the inland nation into the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. The contest will take part in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
He replaces Jan Bors who left the Head Of Delegation role in October.
Big shoes to fill.
Cyril has huge shoes to fill seeing as Czechia has had a run of good fortune since Jan took over as the Head of Delegation in 2015. Hefirst masterminded the Czech’s first ever qualification to the final in Stockholm when Gabriela Guncikova represented them in 2016. This was followed up by Martina Barta’s “My Turn”, despite it coming in the Top 10 with the juries in Kyiv, it however was let down in the televote leading it to not qualify.
In 2018 when the contest went to Lisbon was when Jan really became instrumental in their success. Czechia hosted a National Final, when well known artist in Czechia Mikolas Josef won with the song “Lie To Me”, the Jason Derulo inspired Dance-Pop track took them all the way to a magnificent Sixth-Place which is their current record in the contest.
They then decided what isn’t broke don’t fix it. So when the contest went to the other side of Europe in Tel-Aviv they conducted the same Ntional Final format. This resulted in “Friend Of A Friend” by the band Lake Malawi finished in Eleventh-Place.
Going Live!
Cyril also has the responsibility of organising the Czech National Final for 2020. This will be their first televised National Final in 12 years. This will be hosted live in the Forum Karlin in their capital city of Prague. Cyril is no stranger to big budget television. He is the current show runner of StarDancer the Czech version of the British format Strictly Come Dancing (Dancing With The Stars)
