NDRs official Eurovision outlet eurovision.de has confirmed that their popular series “ESC-Songcheck” will return in 2020. During the show, the hosts and several experts will give their opinions on every Eurovision 2020 entry.
Never change a winning format
“ESC-Songcheck” is now returning for the 10th time after being done first in 2011. However, the show has undergone many changes since then but has now stuck with a format that resonates with people. Hosted by the charming Alina Stiegler and Stefan Spiegel, the show features several experts who are giving their opinions on the songs. Last year those experts included radio hosts, ESC fans, drag queens or TV personalities. Additionally, the hosts will read live comments from the online viewers as the show will be live-streamed. During the show, both hosts and the online audience will get to vote on the different songs with the classic 1-12 Eurovision format.
The dates for the ESC-Songcheck are as follows:
- April 3, 2020
- April 5, 2020
- April 7, 2020
- April 9, 2020
All competing songs will be split up so each show focuses on one-fourth of the songs. Traditionally, each show will showcase one half of a semi-final and one or two of the Big 5 and host country. The German act will be reviewed but not voted on.
Last year, Italy’s Mahmood topped the scoreboard with the Netherlands as a close runner up. Moldova finished in last place with an average score of 2.7 points.
You can be part of the show too!
Furthermore, NDR is looking for a Eurovision hardcore fan to be part of the expert judges! Everyone over the age of 18 can apply by sending in a video showcasing themselves judging ESC songs like they would during the song check. You also have to give a brief explanation of why you should be picked. In the end, NDR will pick the best 10 submissions. Those will be presented on eurovision.de and you get to decide who will be the fan expert!
