🇬🇧 Holly Tandy releases new single ‘Small Talk’

Former Eurovision: You Decide! contestant samples Spanish-influences in her new single

Former Eurovision: You Decide! and The X Factor contestant Holly Tandy has returned today with a brand new track, titled ‘Small Talk’. Sampling some Spanish-influences in the chorus, Tandy puts You Decide! behind her with a catchy new single.

Released under Music Panel Records, ‘Small Talk’ was released online earlier, with an accompanying music video for the single. Writing on Instagram last week, Tandy teased the now released track but also wrote – “so excited to announce I’ve signed a record deal and have new management.”

‘Small Talk’ then is the first single to be released under her new label and the Yorkshire-singer samples more of a dance tone here.

The track marks a definite shift away from what we saw from Tandy in Eurovision: You Decide! with her version of ‘Bigger Than Us’.

The new song finds the singer in what appears to be more comfortable territory within pop-dance parameters, opposed to the country-style ballad that her version of ‘Bigger Than Us’ incorporated.

Arguably, ‘Small Talk’, which runs at little over three minutes, makes for a stronger song for the Eurovision stage than ‘Bigger Than Us’. Sampling Spanish-influenced guitar and drums, the track makes for a catchy, euro-centric single.

Information about the song’s writing credits remain scarce, but tagged within the Instagram post teasing the release is Pete Barringer, Paul Fletcher and former BBC music consultant, Greig Watts. Assumable then that the trio were involved with the production of the track.

‘Small Talk’ marks a step in the right for direction for Tandy, again showing that Eurovision, even the national finals, can be used as a platform to which you can propel yourself from.

Holly Tandy at Eurovision: You Decide!

In this years’ revamped Eurovision: You Decide! Tandy sung against eventual winner Michael Rice for a chance to sing ‘Bigger Than Us’ in the vote-off. Tandy, who performed a more country-folk version of the song compared to Rice’s ballad, fell at the first hurdle as the three judges each chose to advance Rice.

Rice would go on to win You Decide! and perform the entry in Tel Aviv, sadly placing last at the Grand Final in May.

Tandy’s new single is now available to buy and listen to on all major online streaming sites. The music video is available to watch on YouTube.
