SBS announce the first two acts for Australia Decides 2020!

Australia Decides 2020 kicks off with two big names

SBS have announced the first two acts who will compete in Australia Decides 2020 to try and win the ticket to the 65th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest.

The first two names are *drumroll*:

This video by SBS has been published by the Australian media. However, it may be taken down at any time as SBS have listed it as private on YouTube

Casey Donovan

Casey Donovan is probably most well known to Australian fans as the winner of Australian Idol back in 2005 at the age of 16. Since her victory she has acted, become an author and performed in multiple theatre productions. In 2017 she won I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Last year Casey was the opening act to Australia Decides 2019 singing the nations debut song ‘Tonight Again’. More recently, Casey has been performing as Mama Morton in Chicago.

Neither Casey or Vanessa have publicly released their entries. However, we we have got a few details for Casey’s song. She reveals the title will be ‘Proud’ and it is penned by Justine Eltakchi.

When I was asked I thought, what an amazing thing to be a part of! It doesn’t matter what happens for me, Proud is such an incredible song written by the talented Justine Eltakchi and I’m proud to sing it

We are delighted that a song submitted to the SBS song portal has found its way to Casey Donovan – one of the greatest voices in the country

Vanessa Amorosi

Vanessa is probably most known to a global audience for a little performance in 2000. Just a small performance at… the opening and Closing ceremony of the Olympics! However, Vanessa has also taken residence in the charts, with songs charting all the way back to 1999!

I am so incredibly excited to be part of Eurovision – Australia Decides 2020. I am a proud Aussie and to have the opportunity to sing one of my songs on a huge international stage representing Australia would be unforgettable

Vanessa Amorosi

Australia Decides 2020

Australia Decides 2020 will be hosted once again on the Gold Coast and broadcast live on SBS on the 6-7th February. Going from the diverse lineup last year, we can expect a whole range of acts, sounds and languages that fully represent the diversity in Australia.

Who will follow in Kate Miller-Heidke’s (floating) footsteps?

Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest

Australia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015, as a “guest country” to celebrate the contest’s 60th anniversary. Guy Sebastian was selected to represent the country, with “Tonight Again”, which finished in 5th place with 196 points.

Australia were again invited to take part in the contest in 2016, and have been every year since. This year, SBS and the EBU confirmed that Australia’s participation in the contest has been secured until 2023.

Australia have never failed to make the final, finishing as runners-up in 2016, in 9th place in 2017 and 2019 and in 20th place in 2018.
