Rehearsing today for Ireland inside the Gliwice Arena is Anna Kearney, performing ‘Banshee’. As the first rehearsals are closed to the press, this review is based upon content made public by the EBU and TVP.
VISUALS: Anna performs against a gorgeous autumnal backdrop, warm hues of orange, gold and crimson as birds flutter against the falling foliage. The end of the rehearsal clip is demonstrates a move towards a more wintery version of the previous scene, with snow resting on trees and frost capturing the grass. Instead of gold, an orb of rich blue darts across the screen as Anna performs ‘Banshee’: really mesmerising. It almost, almost reminds me of Molly Sterling’s staging concept from the adult contest a few years ago?
VOCALS: Anna channels the sentiment of her song with charisma, the Celtic language really come alive in a live setting.
CHOREO/PERFORMANCE: Much like her Maltese competitor, Anna uses her arms to the best of her ability to portray the narrative of the song. Unlike the music video, it does not appear that there will be a cameo from an infamous Irish winner from the adult contest.
Stay tuned for our reviews for the rest of today’s rehearsals from the Gliwice Arena. If you want to know what to expect for the rest of the day, check out our rehearsal schedule.
