Rehearsing today for The Netherlands inside the Gliwice Arena is Matheu, performing “Dans met jou”. As the first rehearsals are closed to the press, this review is based upon content made public by the EBU and TVP.
Matheu’s performance is set in a park, enhanced by the LED backdrop showing trees in the foreground and the big city full of skyscrapers in the background. The Dutch have brought a park bench to the stage, in which Matheu and his four male dancers interact with throughout the performance.
All five performers are dressed in streetwear, Matheu in a shiny red jacket, white shirt and black jeans. Red and black are also the colour theme for his backing dancers, creating a cohesive look without being identical.
There’s lots of choreography in the performance as to be expected with a dance song, particularly in the chorus, and Matheu manages to multitask singing and dancing effortlessly. The park scene turns to nighttime during the middle eight before daylight re-emerges for the final chorus. An energetic and fun performance that will get the Gliwice Arena on its feet!
