Rehearsing today for Spain inside the Gliwice Arena is Melani García, performing “Marte”. As the first rehearsals are closed to the press, this review is based upon content made public by the EBU and TVP.

Melani performs “Marte” from the top of a podium, in which she is joined by four backing singers to Melani’s left. All five are dressed in almost identical white dresses with Melani’s dressed having subtle extra detail. Her operatic vocals are extraordinary and there are no worries here about whether Melani can replicate the studio version… she sounds even better than the studio version!

The LED backdrop follows a similar theme to a scene of her music video with imagery of oceans taking centre stage throughout. As the performance progresses we see various form of oceanic wildlife. Additionally, the water pulsates with the music as we approach the climax of the song.

On stage, the Spanish delegation has brought with them some “nets” that span the full height and width of the Gliwice Arena stage to give that added effect of Melani performing in the depths of a beautiful ocean.

Stay tuned for our reviews for the rest of today’s rehearsals from the Gliwice Arena. If you want to know what to expect for the rest of the day, check out our rehearsal schedule.

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
