Will Sandro Nicolas represent Cyprus in Rotterdam?

Greek Eurovision site EurovisionFun has reported that Cypriot broadcaster CyBC is very close to an agreement with the talented singer Sandro Nicolas to represent Cyprus in Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam.

Reportedly the singer was favored to try his luck with Germany next year and although an agreement with CyBC has not yet been finalized, the discussions appear to be moving in a very positive direction.

Who is Sandro Nicolas?

Sandro Nicolas is 23 years old and quite popular in Germany, having participated in The Voice of Germany in 2018, reaching the semifinals. Last summer Sandro also competed at the New Wave Festival, where he qualified to the finals!
He speaks Greek fluently and visits Greece often for vacations, or for business purpose such as recently, recording in the studio of Dimitris Kontopoulos.

What was Sandro’s role in German selection?

Germany will not hold a national final for Eurovision 2020, but will go instead on the footsteps of Switzerland this year using similar successful internal concept:
Digame, a production company responsible for selecting the leading candidates for the internal German selection, is in charge of the entire event. The selected artists, after having composed new songs for the competition, were selected by Digame and matched them with the songs to be competed after being first evaluated by an international jury.
Sandro would have been in the final selection stage with more than two songs. This closed national final is due to take place in December and the final decision will be made by a panel of about 100 people (musicians and fans).

However, at this critical point Sandro was approached by Cypriot broadcaster CyBC for Eurovision 2020, now working closely together to finalize the details before an agreement can be reached.
