The Xtra Eurovision Advent Calendar 2019, part 1

It's December! Meaning it's time to dig into the Christmas catalogue of Eurovision artists young and old! Every day from now until Christmas Eve we will bring you a Christmas song performed by Eurovision artists from all corners of the Euroverse, so make sure you don't miss any of them! 1 December We're not exactly starting the 2019 calendar with a bang. Instead, what we bring you today is a wish that many of us share; to come home for Christmas. And who better to help us deliver this message than Benjamin Ingrosso?! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XyY-125zTY Benjamin represented Sweden at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon with the song "Dance You Off". Finishing in 7th place, he added another top 10 result to the long line of amazing Swedish achievements in the contest. 2 December Yesterday we got off to a pleasantly slow start with Benjamin's "Home for Christmas". Today we bring you something else entirely! This is quite definitely one of the more current Christmas songs. It is brought to you by none other than the wonderful Kate Miller-Heidke. If you have ever seen and interview with her, or talked to her for even briefest of moments, you know that she is a very funny woman. This song shows that to the fullest, but there's also a more serious note to it. Giving us one of the more memorable stage performances in the history of the contest, she finished 9th in the Grand Final. 3 December To find today's Christmas song we have to go to the very opposite end of the Euroverse; from Australia to Iceland! Being one of the countries where Eurovision is the most popular, there are quite a few Icelandic artists who have participated more than once. One of them is Jónsi. However, the song we're bringing you today is from his band Í svörtum fötum. Uptempo, fun and with a video that+s bound to make you smile, here is "Jólin eru að koma"! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gwn15tIFCr8 As already mentioned, Jónsi has represented Iceland in the contest twice. The first time was in 2004, when he performed the big ballad "Heaven", finishing in 19th place. He returned in 2012, in a duet with Greta Salóme, with another ballad, "Never Forget". They qualified for the grand final, where they finished 20th. 4 December After two days of fun and uptempo songs we're slowing it down a bit today. One of the most popular of the "modern classics" is Wham!'s "Last Christmas". The number of cover versions of this song is too high to be counted, but the one we're giving you today is one of our favorites. There, she performed her own song "When We're Old". She finished in 12th place in the grand final, which is Lithuania's third best result in the history of the contest. 5 December We know it's a bit early to sing "Silent Night", but when we found this version, we just couldn't wait. For some inexplicable reason she finished 17th in her semi-final, thus failing to qualify for the grand final. #beatsme 6 December It's Friday, so let's get dancing! Saara starts off very slowly, but then she really gets into it!
