The Scoop🇫🇷 France

🇫🇷 “Bim Bam Toi” suddenly going viral in France

The internet is full of surprises. “Bim Bam Toi” – the French entry at Junior Eurovision 2019 – becoming an online “lyp-sinc” trend on Tik Tok and Twitter is one of these.

But don’t worry if you’ve missed it, it’s mainly trending in France.

The undiscovered source

Since at least November, and probably before the Junior Eurovision Song Contest took place (on November 24th), videos of people lip-syncing to “Bim Bam Toi” (wrongly called “Bim Bam Boum”) have been popping up on Tik Tok, a social media app whose popularity lies in hashtag challenges, with users filming themselves lip-syncing to audio clips or videos. It’s sadly proven impossible to find the first of such videos.

On November 25th, the day after the JESC final, where “Bim Bam Toi” ended up fifth, a compilation video was posted on Youtube with the best “BimBamBoum challenge” videos published on Tik-Tok.

The influencer who made it bigger

This week, French youtuber Juju Fitcats posted her own Tik-Tok contribution to the so-called BimBamBoum Challenge, as she was waiting for take-off in a plane.

With more than a million subscribers, that spark was enough to fully ignite the trend. The challenge got bigger, and people started to parody the song in other ways, or even Juju Fitcats’ video itself.

Logically, the topic also started trending on other social media, especially Twitter, where it’s been in the Top 10 French trending topics for most of the last two days, even being the third most popular topic at the end of the working day on Friday.

You can find the best videos online, but here are some of ESCXTRA’s favorite take on the BimBamBoum trend :

And even the official French Fortnite account “jumped on the bandwagon” when introducing a new outfit for players, Bundles.

Our heart goes BIM BAM BOUM for the new Bundles outfit and its cute Gwinny backpack.

For now, the French twittosphere is seemingly in a “it’s annoying but it’s good” mood about the earwormy chorus. How long will the trend last ? Probably not until the end of the year, but in the meantime Carla and Junior Eurovision are enjoying an unexpected popularity in a country that usually does not care about them.
