Rehearsal review

Rehearsing right now for the second time inside the Rotterdam Ahoy is Efendi performing “Mata Hari” for Azerbaijan. We will continue to update this article as each run through takes place, so make sure to keep refreshing for the most up-to-date review!

Firstly, remind yourselves what happened in the first rehearsal:

And now here is what we’ve noticed in today’s second rehearsal:

Efendi has her hair stage-ready for this dress rehearsal which is much more classic Efendi which is fabulous. There seem to be significant changes for the final chorus of the song, the LED backdrop is a lot more frantic with its flashing colours and the lighting is also more frantic, made more obvious by some wider shots.

This is definitely different in sound to the other uptempo females we have in this semi-final and this could play into Azerbaijan’s favour. It feels like the performance is missing some pyrotechnics at the end to really emphasise the dramatic finish and we shall see if this appears in the later run throughs.

For the final run through, we finally see the expected pyrotechnics from Azerbaijan with lots of flames and fire for that final part of the song which looks very effective in the wider shots.
