๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ฟ Kazakhstan not eligible to host Junior Eurovision 2020

Kazakhstan would not be eligible to host the 2020 Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

The EBU has confirmed to Spanish blog Eurofestivales that despite interest from the country, Kazakhstan would not be eligible to host the next Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2020. They stated only full EBU members are eligible to host the contest, with broadcaster Khabar Agency being only an associate member.

Kazakhstan hosting the contest in their capital Nur-Sultan would bring a Eurovision event further east than any other participating country. During earlier discussions the delegation had stated that due to weather conditions being less favourable in late November the contest would likely be brought forward to October.

Kazakhstan placed second at Junior Eurovision 2019

This year Kazakhstan was represented by Yerzhan Maksim with the song โ€œArmanyล„nan Qalmaโ€. It scored a total of 227 points. It won the jury vote with 148 points and came 5th with the online vote scoring 79 points.

What about the other possible host countries?

Poland both hosted and won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019, and are interested in hosting the contest for a second time in 2020. However the Head of TVP Jacek Kurski has hinted that the EBU may not support a Polish bid to host for a second year running. In third place was Spain but Spanish broadcaster RTVE has stated that itย will not be bidding for the contest this time.
