Davina Michelle, one of the acts regularly tipped to be the act representing host nation in next years Eurovision Song Contest has confirmed she will be too busy to compete. This will come as a blow to her many fans, who even started a petition to lobby the Dutch broadcasters to select her for the contest, hosted in Rotterdam.
In an interview with AD she
It is an honour that people think of me to represent The Netherlands. I like that very much. [However] I have indicated that it will not be for me next year because there is simply no time.

This is not the first time Davina has been linked to the contest. In November 2018, her name was rumoured to be at the top of the list for AVROTROS discussions. However, at the time she attempted to distance herself from the rumours:
Well, there’s nothing to the rumours. I don’t know if it’s… you know. I don’t think it’s something for this year, no.

It seems that like last year, fans of Davina will have to wait for another time.
Rising star in the Netherlands
The Rotterdam native rose to fame earlier this year when she released a cover of Pink’s hit What About Us. The American singer even responded to Davina’s cover, giving it many views on YouTube.
Last year, Davina Michelle took part in Beste Zangers. A popular format across central and northern Europe which sees a group of well-known performers take turns. Each episode is dedicated to the repertoire of one act, where the other performers pick and cover a song in their own style. The original performer then judges the cover, gives feedback and picks a favourite.
Her cover of rapper Glen Faria (also known as MC Fit) song Duurt te lang also did incredibly well. Two days after the episode was broadcast, the cover shot to the most downloaded song on iTunes in The Netherlands. It later reached number one in the Dutch Top 40 and the Dutch Single Top 100. It was certified gold last November. To date it has over 20 million views on Youtube!
Her cover of Lewis Capaldi’s ‘Someone You Loved’, released in the summer, has currently amassed well over 2.4 million views.
