🇮🇸 Felix Bergsson says “no decision has been made” about JESC

Will they branch out to other events?

Icelandic Head of Delegation, Felix Bergsson, has revealed to ESCXTRA.com that the Icelandic broadcaster RÚV has made “no decision” about taking part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

“We watch JESC with joy”

Spanish Eurovision blog, Eurofestivales, reported yesterday that Iceland were considering participating in another Eurovision family contest. ESCXTRA.com contacted the Icelandic head of delegation, Felix Bergsson, for more information on this matter.

We are always reviewing our participation in the ESC project. We watch JESC with joy but no decision has been made about joining the contest.

– Felix Bergsson, speaking to ESCXTRA on 26 December 2019

To date, Iceland have only taken part in the Eurovision Song Contest and no other events in the Eurovision family. Iceland’s best result at Eurovision is 2nd place where they finished on two occasions – in 1999 and 2009.

Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020

After Viki Gabor won Junior Eurovision 2019 in Gliwice, Poland became the first country to bid to host the 2020 contest. Kazakhstan also considered placing a bid, but the EBU said it would not be possible as they are not a full member of the European Broadcasting Union.

To date, six countries have confirmed their intention to participate in the contest – Georgia, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and Ukraine.
