Eurovision 2020🇷🇸 Serbia

🇷🇸 Serbia: Hurricane, Neda Ukraden and Bane Mojićević among Beovizija applicants

Hurricane had one of the biggest Serbian hits of 2019

Back in November, Serbian broadcaster RTS announced that they had extended the submission deadline for Beovizija 2020. With the new deadline passing on December 9th, the broadcaster then confirmed that 90 entries had been submitted. Now, Serbian media sites are starting to mention the names of potential participants.

According to Serbian site Kurir, we have the first three names of the 90 applicants for Beovizija 2020. The selection is already promising some big names potentially. These names include popular girl band Hurricane, Neda Ukraden and Bane Mojićević. The dates for Beovizija have yet to be confirmed, but will be confirmed shortly according to the site.

Eurovision fans will of course know Hurricane due to one of its three members being Sanja Vučić, who represented Serbia back in 2016 with “Goodbye (Shelter)”. This year, their Serbian-language single “Favourite” became one of the country’s biggest hits. The official video currently has over 34 million views on YouTube. We’re sure news of their potential participation will excite many Eurovision fans:

Another potential participant who is said to have submitted an entry is veteran Serbian singer Neda Ukraden, whose entry is said to have made a great impression on the panel shortlisting the entries. Said to be an early favourite, Neda has also recently performed concerts in Bulgaria and Romania. Another applicant according to Kurir is Bane Mojićević, who won the second season of the Serbian version of Your Face Sounds Familiar in 2014.

Beovizija 2020

The preselection jury, made of music editors of RTS, are reviewing all of the submissions, and will reveal the shortlist next month. As previously mentioned, a total of 90 songs were received for Beovizija 2020, 14 more than the 2019 edition.

Beovizija 2020 will mark the third consecutive edition of the selection. Previously, Serbia had used a variety of measures to select their entrants for the contest. Having so far produced 2/2 qualifiers, we’re sure RTS will be looking to score a hat trick with Beovizija 2020.

Serbia at the Eurovision Song Contest

Serbia debuted as an independent nation at 2007 with “Molitva” by Marija Šerifović which won the competition. In 2008, Serbia had the honor of hosting the competition in Belgrade.

Since their debut, Serbia has participated eleven times. Out of their eleven participations, they have managed to make the final eight times. Despite narrowly missing out on a place in the final in 2017, the Balkan nation has qualified for the past two contests.

In 2019, Serbia selected Nevena Božović to represent Serbia in Tel Aviv, with her song ‘Kruna‘. This was Nevena’s third participation at a Eurovision event. She has previously participated in Junior Eurovision in 2007 and in Eurovision in 2013 with Moje 3. Overall, she managed to finish 18th Overall, receiving 35 Points from the Jury Vote and 54 Points from the Public Vote.

Ever since I saw Helena Paparizou's triumph at Eurovision in 2005 (at the tender age of 6), I have been crazy about Eurovision. From the regional native language bops and shrieky female-led balladry to the sophisticated avant garde pop songs and chart-friendly EDM, I love everything about this cultural phenomenon. I'm currently working as a Delivery Manager in a software development team.
