Our #ESC250 2019 votes – Part 4: Sean, Aline, Luke M

Luke M: Cute as a button or fierce as Foureira

My taste is very…a song has to either make me feel like a fierce queen ready to take on the world, or it has to make me feel like the happiest and sweetest boy in the world. That is absolutely evident in my top 10, with Fuego in particular just missing out at 4th place! Anybody who saw me on the live stream from the Tel Aviv press centre in May will already know what my new favourite is…

  • 1 point: Ooh… Aah… Just A Little Bit (UK 1996)
  • 2 points: Chameleon (Malta 2019)
  • 3 points: Kloden Drejer (Denmark 1983)
  • 4 points: Monsters (Finland 2018)
  • 5 points: My Number One (Greece 2005)
  • 6 points: La La Love (Cyprus 2012)
  • 7 points: Fuego (Cyprus 2018)

8 points: Only Teardrops (Denmark 2013)

We need more of this in Eurovision. We REALLY need more of this in Eurovision. So dramatic, so catchy, so powerful! It was no surprise whatsoever that this turned out to be the big fan favourite in 2013, it’s a great message encapsulated in a jaw-dropping performance of a stunning song. BRING BACK THE FLUTE!

10 points: Satellite (Germany 2010)

This was my favourite Eurovision song for many many years and Lena is still to this day one of my favourite artists (even if she has now gone “too cool for the old Lena”). I absolutely fell in love with her personality in 2010 and that personality shone through in her performance of a song that was so contemporary for its time.

Honorable Mention: Kloden Drejer (Denmark 1983)

I’ve never really been into the older Eurovisions. The style of music and the songs just never really appeal to me whatsoever, so there’s no point me spending hours watching if I won’t enjoy it. HOWEVER, I was coaxed into watching Eurovision 1983, and this one really stood out for me – a fantastic song and yet abysmal vocals in the live performance, I’ve never known the two to be at such opposite ends of the spectrum.

12 points: Love Is Forever (Denmark 2019)

So in 2015 Denmark absolutely broke my heart by not selecting the absolutely beautiful Suitcase by Anne Gadegaard. I wasn’t able to forgive them and then on my birthday this year they redeemed themselves by selecting this song. It makes me feel so happy to listen to and it was the best birthday present ever! Some people call it “childish”, I call those people “miserable”. 😀
