🇮🇸 Iceland: Söngvakeppnin 2020 entries to be revealed January 18

Back in September we announced that Iceland had confirmed participation for Eurovision 2020 through it’s national selection shoe Söngvakeppnin. Moments ago it was revealed that the Icelandic final is expected to take place on February 29, but the acts for Söngvakeppnin 2020, Iceland’s national final, are set to be released already on January 18.

RUV, Iceland’s national broadcaster has revealed today to Eurovoix that the acts for Söngvakeppnin 2020 will be revealed on January 18, with the broadcaster expected to hold a reveal show, as it did in 2019, for the competing artists and songs.

Söngvakeppnin 2020

The national final to determine the Icelandic entry for Eurovision Song Contest 2020 will consist of three shows.
Two semi-finals to be held on February 8 and 15 containing 10 songs each, with only two songs from each semifinal advancing to the final on February 29.However, RUV will have the right to choose a song among the non-qualified ones, as a wildcard for the actual final. Hence, the final will consist of five entries in total battling for the ticket to Rotterdam.

The preconditions for the semifinals is that the songs need to be performed in Icelandic, however, while proceeding to the final each singer can sing in whatever language he or she intends to perform the song in Eurovision, if they are selected.

Last year, Hatari represented Iceland ending up in 10th place in the final with 232 points.

Who would you like to see representing Iceland in Rotterdam? Do you think they will ever win the contest? And would you have liked to see them win back in 1999 or 2009, when they finished second with “All Out of Luck”/”Is It True?”? Share your thought and opinions with us on social media @escxtra
