The Scoop🇪🇸 Spain

🇪🇸 Spain’s Blas Cantó to unveil Eurovision entry on Operación Triunfo 2020?

Yesterday, the eleventh series of Spanish talent show Operación Triunfo launched on RTVE. RTVE entertainment director Toni Prieto recently revealed she wishes for Blas Cantó to reveal his entry for the upcoming 2020 Eurovision Song Contest during the show’s latest season.

A change in selection format

The previous two Spanish Eurovision entries were selected using Operación Triunfo, with the show’s top-placed contestants performing original songs in a special “Gala Eurovisión” show. In 2018, Alfred and Amaia were selected for Eurovision with “Tu Canción”. A year later, Miki was victorious with “La Venda”.

Whilst RTVE has opted to internally select their artist this year, RTVE’s entertainment director still wants to tie in the channel’s most popular music show with the premiere of their 2020 Eurovision entry. With this season of Operación Triunfo beginning later than in previous years, the show is not scheduled to finish until April making this very much a possibility.

A title that can be “appreciated in many languages”

Blas Cantó has already revealed that he has chosen which song he wishes to perform in Rotterdam. The title of the song has been revealed as a one-word title in Spanish, a word that “can be appreciated in many languages”.

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
