Catalan radio station Els 40 revealed today that RTVE will present the 2020 Spanish Eurovision Song Contest entry, “Universo”, next Thursday, January 30th. As a result, Spain will become the second nation to reveal their Eurovision entry.

Live performance on February 2?

The claim by Els 40, a regional branch of the Los 40 radio network, has been confirmed by other sources to eurovision-spain.com. It is also reported that RTVE will give the song its live debut on Operaci贸n Triunfo within “days” of the reveal. Therefore, a performance on “Gala 3”, due to air on February 2nd, is not out of the question.

Official announcement expected tomorrow

The single artwork and release date for “Universo” is due to be officially unveiled tomorrow by RTVE. This follows the song title announcement yesterday which was accompanied by the following description of the song as told by Blas himself:

鈥淯niverso鈥 has a new and risky style for me, but retaining my essence. I am very happy with the result,鈥 Blas explains

Can Spain get back into the top 10?

“Universo” will be the successor to “La venda” which represented Spain in the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest, performed by Operaci贸n Triunfo season 10 contestant Miki. In Tel Aviv, Miki placed 22nd with 54 points, Spain’s best result since 2016.

In Spain’s past fifteen appearances at the Eurovision Song Contest, the nation has only achieved four top 20 finishes, two of which reached the top 10. RTVE and Spain will be hoping “Universo” will see the Iberian nation return to the top 10 once more!

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
