Irish Head of Delegation Michael Kealy has teased details of the selection on an upcoming episode on The Euro Trip podcast.

Back in September, Irish broadcaster RTÉ confirmed that Ireland will select its Eurovision 2022 entry via a televised selection. In an upcoming interview with The Euro Trip Podcast, Head of Delegation Michael Kealy  revealed that 320 songs have been submitted for “Eurovision Late Late Show Special”.

As reported by Eurovoix, Irish Head of Delegation Michael Kealy has recorded an interview with The Euro Trip Podcast.

James Rowe, one of the presenters of the podcast, revealed on his Twitter that 320 songs have been submitted to RTÉ to represent Ireland at Eurovision 2022 following their open call.

Although the exact date and format for the “Eurovision Late Late Show Special” have not been confirmed, it’s due to air in early 2022. The selection will involve the public in some capacity, marking Ireland’s first non internal-selected entry since 2015.

Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021

After previously being selected to represent Ireland at Eurovision 2020, Lesley Roy returned to represent the seven-time winning country in Rotterdam this year. In 2020, she was due to perform “Story of My Life” in the first semi-final.

A year on, Lesley took to the stage – in slot number 7 in the first semi-final – with “Maps”. She failed to qualify from the semi-final, scoring just 20 points. This marked Ireland’s second consecutive last place finish in its semi-final.
