About Catharina Zühlke

Catharina Zühlke has German roots, but was born in Vantaa, Finland. She has loved performing since she was a little girl and names Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson as her biggest idols.

She rose to fame after taking part in Finnish Idol in 2013 where she finished on joint fifth place. She was eliminated at the same time as her fellow UMK-contestant Erika Vikman.

After that, Catharina released some singles in Finnish before competing in Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu in 2017. She finished second behind Norma John with her song “Perfect Villain”.

Since then, Catharina has released music only in English. Her newest single “Gonna Leave My Sorry Ass” was released in August 2019.

About the song

Catharina’s song is written by Marcia Sondeijker, Roel Rats, Josefin Myrberg, Henrik Tala and Catharina Zühlke herself. Dutch Marcia Sondeijker and Roel Rats co-wrote Ireland’s entry last year. They also wrote “Pray for Me” for the Norway’s national selection. The song qualified to the final in last week’s semifinal.

Finnish Henrik Tala co-wrote and produced KEiiNO’s “Spirit in the Sky”, which won the televote in the final of Eurovision 2020. He also co-wrote one of the songs in Danish Melodi Grand Prix 2020. Henrik says he met Marcia and Roel at breakfast in Tel Aviv and they later travelled to Stockholm to write music together.
