SVT has this morning announced that Thorsten Flinck has been disqualified from competing in Melodifestivalen 2020.
It was recently revealed that Thorsten had been criminally charged for unlawful threat and vandalism, leaving the broadcaster with next to no option but to remove him from this year’s competition. He was due to compete at next weekend’s second heat in Gothenburg.
The hunt for a new performer begins
SVT have confirmed that whilst Flinck was no longer eligible to compete, his entry ‘Miraklernas tid‘ would remain in the contest. The process of finding a new singer to carry the song had already begun.
Thorsten previously competed in the 2012 edition of Melodifestivalen, with the song Jag reser mig igen.
First heat kicked off last night
Melodifestivalen returned to TV screens last night with it’s first heat, live from the Saab Arena in Linköping.
Robin Bengtsson & The Mamas gained a direct ticket to the grand final. Malou Prytz & Felix Sandman proceeded to the Second Chance round.
