Wales: S4C confirms October 9th for Chwilio am Seren

Welsh broadcaster S4C has announced Chwilio am Seren (Search For A Star) will air October 9th to select their debut Junior Eurovision act.

Chwilio am Seren date confirmed and further details

Replying to an inquisitive tweeter on social media, S4C confirmed the date for their national selection Chwilio am Seren:

The final will take place on October 9th in Llandudno’s Venue Cymru. Coincidentally it’s about to undergo a £3million revamp to be finished next year… in time for a debut hosting perhaps?

Since announcing their debut to the Junior Eurovision family back in May a lengthy audition process has already begun. Starting early, a call was issued for Welsh singers between 9-14yrs to take part in auditions that were held in June across Llandudno, Cardiff and Aberystwyth. From this 12 acts progressed to a mentoring round, where the acts received further tuition with selected professionals and performance coaches. After this round the final 6 acts will advance to the live national final. During which a panel of experts and the Welsh viewers will decide who is going to Minsk in November.

A song for the winning artist or group will be chosen at a later date. Whilst being a fluent Welsh speaker is not a requirement, the winning act must sing in the Welsh language once they take to the stage in Minsk.

Presenter Trystan Ellis-Morris will be joined by the mentors Connie Fisher, Tara Bethan and Stifyn Parri. Non-Welsh viewers will be familiar with Connie Fisher for winning the BBC talent show How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? As well as this, S4C will broadcast a series of shows where viewers can see how the selection was undertaken.

Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018

In just 100 days a record 20 acts will light up the stage in the Belarus capital Minsk on November 25th. Despite Russia being the victor in 2017, Belarus won the bidding process and will host for the second time since their last in 2010. Along with Wales, Kazakhstan will also be participating in their first Eurovision event. Making their returns to the contest in 2018 are Azerbaijan, France and Israel. However Cyprus will sadly be sitting out this contest.
