🇵🇱 JESC countdown: how are things going with Viki Gabor?

Earlier in this series we talked about Roksana Węgiel. Now its time to check up on Viki Gabor, the most recent winner of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest!

Gliwice 2019: throwback

The seventeenth edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest took place in Gliwice, Poland. It had 19 participants, which was one less than the previous edition. Spain made their return to the contest this year, having last participated in 2006. Unfortunately, both Azerbaijan and Israel withdrew from the contest. Slovakia had expressed interest in making their debut to the contest, but ultimately decided against it. The country had previously intended to participate in the inaugural contest in 2003, but withdrew due to financial issues.

The winner of the contest was Viki Gabor from Poland. It was second win in a row for the central European nation, the first time this had been achieved at the junior contest. Prior to winning JESC gold, Viki had participated on season 2 of The Voice Kids Poland, where she reached the final. This inspired her to participate in the revived Polish talent show Szansa na Sukces, which she ultimately won gaining the right to represent Poland at JESC 2019.

Life after the Junior Eurovision

There was no rest for the champion after her win! Viki began to appear on the popular Polish YouTube channel “Studio Tymbark. In December 2019, she released a limited CD run of her winning song “Superhero”, with all proceeds going to the WWF Foundation. Of course, the young artist released a couple of new singles too! Here is a sample:

Since then, she has also released her debut album ‘Getaway (Into My Imagination), which peaked at Number 6 in the Polish Album Charts.

Viki was a jury member on the first semi final of Szansa na Sukces 2020 in September 2020. She also made a performance as a musical guest on the Polish version of “Dancing with the Stars” in October.

What is Viki up to now?

One year on from her winning performance, Viki Gabor has also played a large role in the 2020 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. She made a cameo at Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light in May to announce the slogan for the contest #MoveTheWorld. She also appeared at the opening ceremony of the 2020 JESC, where she sang the theme song for the contest also titled “Move the World”.
