Eurovision 2020🇵🇱 Poland

🇵🇱 Alicja Szemplińska will represent Poland in Rotterdam!

She will perform her song "Empires"

After their success in Junior Eurovision for the second year running, Poland opted to return a national final to select their entry for Rotterdam – and the winner has been chosen! Today, Alicja Szemplińska won the Szansa na Sukces final and will represent Poland in Rotterdam with “Empires”.

Each of the three acts in the final performed two songs – a cover of a former Eurovision winner and the entry they would take to Eurovision, if they were to win. Alicja Szemplińska performed a cover of “Euphoria” in the final, before performing their Eurovision entry, “Empires”.

The winner was decided by a combination of a jury vote and a televote. The panel who commented on the songs was made up of three former Eurovision entrants – Cleo (Poland 2014), Michał Szpak (Poland 2016) and Gromee (Poland 2018). It is the first time since the 2018 contest that Poland has selected their act via a national final.

Poland at the Eurovision Song Contest

Poland made their debut in Eurovision at the 1994 contest in Dublin. Edyta Górniak finished in second place with her song, “To nie ja!”. It still remains as Poland’s best result to date.

Poland has since only made the top 10 on two further occasions – in 2003 and 2016. Ich Troje finished in seventh place in Riga, while Michał Szpak finished in eighth place in Stockholm.

Since the semi-finals were introduced, Poland have qualified for the finals six times (out of a total of 14 attempts). Poland will be hoping to make it a seventh qualification this year, after failing to qualify for the past two years. Last year, in Tel Aviv, Tulia represented the Eastern European nation with “Fire of Love (Pali się)”. They finished in 11th place in the semi-final with 120 points.
