🇬🇧 James Newman to represent United Kingdom with “My Last Breath”

Eurovision-winning songwriter behind the song

United Kingdom’s artist to Rotterdam was revealed by Greg James on BBC Radio 1 and by Ken Bruce on BBC Radio 2 today. As rumoured, James Newman will represent United Kingdom in Rotterdam with “My Last Breath”.

Who is James Newman?

London-based James Newman is a singer and a songwriter. In 2014 he won Brit Award for British Single of the Year as songwriter of Rudimental’s “Waiting All Night”.

James has worked with international DJ stars Armin van Buuren and Don Diablo. He has also written songs for Jessie Ware, Kesha, Olly Murs, ZAYN, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and James Arthur. He also has some Eurovision experience. In 2017, he co-wrote Ireland’s entry “Dying to Try”. The song was performed by Brendan Murray and placed 13th in the second semifinal.

James’ brother, John Newman, is also a singer and got international success with his 2013 hit “Love Me Again“.

About the songwriters

The entry “My Last Breath” is written by Iain James, Adam Argyle, Ed Drewett and James himself. All of the songwriters have impressive catalogue, including big international hits and one Eurovision winning entry.

Iain James co-wrote Azerbaijan’s entry “Running Scared” that won the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. He also was one of the songwriters on Belgium’s entry in 2013, “Love Kills“. Iain has also written songs for Little Mix, Emeli Sandé, Olly Murs and EXO.

Adam Argyle has worked with Melanie C, Dua Lipa, Jedward and Marco Mengoni among others. He co-wrote the song “Come un attimo fa” to Marco Mengoni’s 2015 album Parole in circolo.

Ed Drewett has three British number one singles as a songwriter. He has written songs for The Wanted, Little Mix, One Direction and Jonas Blue.

Last November Iain James, Ed Drewett and James Newman organized a songwriting camp in Cotswolds, England. The songwriting camp was sponsored by performing rights organization BMI.
