EurovisionEurovision 2020🇩🇪 Germany

🇩🇪 Ben Dolic performs “Violent Thing” live for the first time

He proved that he has got the voice!

After being released earlier today, Ben performed an acoustic version of “Violent Thing” during the broadcast of the show “Unser Lied für Rotterdam”.

A detailed view on the internal selection

During the show, host Barbara Schöneberger guided us through the process of finding the German artist for 2020. They started the search in March, assembled the Eurovision-Jury early on and started looking for artists in May and June. From June on, NDR held songwriting camps and looked for songs. The result of those searches was then given to the two juries who whittled down the songs and artists to just 10 artists with 17 songs. In the end, Ben was chosen and they even showed a video of him being surprised by the big news!

Boris Milano, composer of “Violent Thing”, was also present and explained a little bit about the process of composing the song. He stated that he did not actually write it for Eurovision but wrote it independently. When Ben then mentioned to him that he was in the German selection, he decided to give it to him as he thought his voice fitted perfectly on the track. Borislav also emphasized the importance of a strong artist-song connection and mentioned that the German team has been the most pleasant and professional one to work with yet.

Dance banger gone acoustic

At the end of the show, Ben performed “Violent Thing” for the first time live, only accompanied by an acoustic guitar. He delivered a strong vocal and proved that he can sing live. You can watch his performance down below!
