🇺🇦 Oleksandr Balabanov releases the video for ‘Vidkryvai (Open Up)’

It features themes of discovery and relationships

He won the Ukrainian national selection back in September, earning the right to represent his country at the 2020 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Now, Oleksandr Balabanov has ‘opened up’ the official video for his song.

The video was filmed in Kyiv last week and was produced by Serhii Kryvosheia, Head of Marketing and Advertising for the Ukrainian broadcaster UA:PBC. According to Serhii the video is made up of a few layers, including themes of discovering a new world and also human relationships. It is a rather thought-provoking and complex video, which in my opinion compliments the song perfectly. Take a look below:

Oleksandr Balabanov

At 14 years old, Oleksandr is already well acquainted to the world of a musician. He was born in Donetsk, Ukraine and started to sing from a very young age. At age four he joined a children’s folk music group and moved to the capital Kyiv at the age of eight. Oleksandr is the 15th artist to represent Ukraine, but only the 2nd male artist to do so, the last being Andranik Aleksanyan in 2009.

Ukriane’s Junior Eurovision history

First participating in the contest in 2006, Ukraine has won the contest in one occasion and hosted twice. They first hosted in 2009, where the contest was held in Kyiv in the Palace of Sports. This was same venue as the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest.

Victory came calling in Amsterdam in 2012 thanks to Anastasiya Petryk and her song ‘Nebo’, and the contest was held in Kyiv again in 2013. Last year, the nation was represented by Sophia Ivanko and her song ‘The Spirit of Music’. She finished in 15th place in Poland.
