With over seven months to go until this year’s Junior Eurovision, we already have our first act confirmed for the contest. Simão Oliveira, who won this year’s The Voice Kids Portugal, will represent Portugal at the contest in France on 28th November.
The announcement was made shortly after he was announced as the winner of The Voice Kids last night. This also means that Portugal has announced their return to the junior contest after a one-year break in 2020.
Simão will take to the stage
In last night’s final of The Voice Kids, Simão Oliveira – coached by Fernando Daniel – saw off competition from runner-up Aurora Pinto and third place finisher Mia Benita and managed to win the show with a performance of Carlos do Carmo’s “No teu poema”.
14-year old Simão lives in Arauca, with his parents and his sister Rita. He hails from a music-loving family, and he began singing at the age of four. Simão enjoys performing fado as well as playing the clarinet.
He becomes the first act to be announced for this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest. His song will be announced at a later date.
Junior Eurovision 2021
Though the host city is yet to be confirmed, we do know that the contest will be held in France after they won last year’s contest with Valentina’s “J’imagine”. The contest is set to be held on 28th November.
So far, eight countries have revealed their intentions to take part in this year’s contest:
Last year, twelve countries took part in the contest with many countries that took part in 2019 withdrawing.
Portugal in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest
To date, Portugal’s highest finish at Junior Eurovision came courtesy of Pedro Madeira and Mariana Venâncio who placed 14th in 2006 and 2017 respectively.
In 2019, Joana Almeida placed 16th with her inspirational midtempo track “Vem comigo (Come With Me)”.
