🇨🇾 Tania Breazou to represent Cyprus at Eurovision 2022?

Michalis Hatzigiannis is being lined-up to compose the entry

You may recall that last summer was rife with rumours about Cyprus’ Eurovision 2021 representative. This year, by comparison, it’s been a rather quiet news cycle for the Mediterranean island. Current rumours suggest that Michalis Hatzigiannis is in line to compose the next Cypriot entry, with Tania Breazou being the vocalist.

According to EurovisionFun, plans are coming together for the Cyprus’ Eurovision 2022 project. What is most likely, according to their article, is that Panik Records will once again be the label behind the entry, having released each of the island’s entries since 2018 (with the exception of “Replay” in 2019).

The website states that CyBC is looking to bring Michalis Hatzigiannis on board as the composer for their next entry. He represented Cyprus back in 1998 with the song “Genesis”, placing 11th. The website notes that a proposal has been made, and he will either accept or decline once he has finished his tour.

In addition, it is rumoured that Tania Breazou is being lined up as the vocalist. Tania is of Greek-Romanian heritage and recently won the Greek version of Your Face Sounds Familiar on ANT1. Notably, she is signed to Panik Records, the home of Eleni Foureira, Ivi Adamou and Elena Tsagrinou.

Of course, none of this is official, so take it with a pinch of salt. Last year, Elena was confirmed in late November, so we may still have a while until we know the confirmed artist/team.

In the meantime, check out our editorial on what we would like to see from Cyprus at Eurovision 2022.

Cyprus at Eurovision 2021

Back in November 2020, Elena Tsagrinou was announced as Cyprus’ 2021 representative. “El Diablo” boasted an international team, from the writers to the styling and staging. Due to misconceptions about the song’s message, the entry attracted backlash from Cyprus’ conservative Orthodox community. Despite this, the song has become one of the most successful Eurovision songs of 2021, charting on Billboard and currently holding a licensing deal with Sony Music

In Rotterdam, she qualified from semi-final one in 6th, before finishing 16th in the Grand Final with 94 points.
