The 2020 winner of Finland’s national selection Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu Aksel Kankaanranta is planning to send a song to the contest next year.
Aksel Kankaanranta won the Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu with his song “Looking Back” and was set to represent Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. Unlike many other countries, Finland didn’t select Aksel for 2021 internally, but decided to hold the national final next year as well.
Aksel hasn’t given up on his Eurovision dream, but confessed that he is planning on sending a song to the contest next year and his team are already working on some demos. However, we don’t have to wait until 2021 to hear new music from Aksel, as he promised new music is on the way even before that.
Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu will return next year and the search for the songs open on 1st of September. For the first time ever, a special trophy will be given for the winner. Everyone can send in their ideas for the trophy. More information (in Finnish) can be found here.
