11 finalists, one winner!

The eleven finalists taking part in the national final this year are:

  • Janae
  • Thimo
  • Demi
  • Thijs
  • Jayda
  • Tyrone
  • Robin
  • Teddy
  • Maud
  • Naomi
  • Jackie

Matheu, who represented The Netherlands last year, surprised all eleven acts with the news that they would be competing for the Dutch Junior Eurovision ticket this year. You can see the video of their reactions below.

Four acts for the final

For the final, the 11 artists will be grouped into four acts. Some of the artists will compete as soloists, while others will compete in duos or groups. The groupings of the acts will be revealed next week on the official Junior Songfestival YouTube channel.

Once the groupings are revealed, the acts will begin to work on their entries ahead of the Junior Songfestival final in September.

The line-up of the 11 finalists has already changed once as one of the original finalists, Stella, had to withdraw because she was moving to Jamaica with her family. Stella was replaced in the finalists list with Jackie.

The Netherlands at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest

The Netherlands debuted at Junior Eurovision in the inaugural contest in 2003. They are one of only two countries, along with Belarus, that have taken part in every contest since it began. The first Dutch act at the contest was Roel with “Mijn ogen zeggen alles”, which finished in 11th place.

The country’s first top three placing came in 2009 when they won the contest, held in Kyiv. Ralf Mackenbach represented the country with “Click Clack” and walked away victorious with 121 points. Since then, they have managed one more top three placing, in 2011, with Rachel’s “Teenager” which finished in 2nd place.

Last year, Matheu represented The Netherlands with “Dans met jou”. Scoring four sets of 12 points from the juries, he finished in 4th place with 186 points, including 81 points from the online vote.
