The follow-up to "Kemama" is coming

Benny Cristo, who is set to represent the Czech Republic at Eurovision 2021, is currently deciding on his song for the contest in Rotterdam, after working on several potential entries.

Former Czech Head of Delegation, Jan Frost Bors, shared the news on Twitter yesterday, after Benny made the announcement on TV. Benny was due to represent the Czech Republic at this year’s contest, with the song “Kemama”, before it was cancelled.

Decision time for Cristo

For the first time since 2017, Czech broadcaster ČT internally selected their artist, following this year’s cancellation. Since being selected, Benny has been working on a “few songs for Eurovision”, and will now select one of these to perform next year.

Czech Republic in the Eurovision Song Contest

Debuting in 2007, the Czech Republic hasn’t always been the most successful country at the Eurovision Song Contest. Their debut entry, “Malá dáma”, performed by Kabát scored just 1 point in the semi-final. After two further non-qualifications, the nation withdrew from the contest for five years, before returning in 2015.

Their first appearance in the final came a year later, in 2016, when Gabriela Gunčíková took her song “I Stand” to 25th place in the final. The Czech Republic scored their best result to date in 2018 with Mikolas Josef’s “Lie To Me”. It placed 6th in the final with 281 points.

Benny Cristo was selected to represent the Czech Republic at the 2020 contest in Rotterdam, however, the contest was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
