An Xtra Happy Birthday; June 1st

Today, just like yesterday, we bring you three Eurovision stars to celebrate; two birthday girls and one birthday boy. The oldest is 47 and the youngest is 33. None of them did very well in the contest, but a couple of their entries have become classics among the fans. One of them has even participated twice! We give you Jónsi!!

Marjon Keller, 47

Marjon represented the Netherlands at the 1986 Eurovision Song Contest in Bergen. At the time she was just 16 years old. She was part of the girl group Frizzle Sizzle, with sisters Laura and Karin Vlasblom and Mandy Huydts. They performed the song “Alles heeft een ritme”, finishing in 13th place.

Jónsi, 41

Jónsi, or Jón Jósep Snæbjörnsson, represented Iceland at the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest in Istanbul. He performed the emotional ballad “Heaven” in the grand final. Having been one of the pre-contest favorites, he finished in a rather disappointed 19th place. Three years later, in 2007, he entered the Icelandic national final with the song “Segðu mér“, but like everyone else that year, he was defeated by Eirikur Hauksson and “Valentine Lost”. In 2012, however, he returned once more to Söngvakeppnin, this time in a duet with Greta Salóme. They won with “Mundu eftir mér“, which was translated to “Never Forget” for Baku. There they finished 8th in the first semi-final, only to drop to 20th place in the frand final.

Tamara Todevska, 33

Tamara represented Macedonia at the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade. She did so together with Rade Vrchakovski and Adrian Gaxha. They performed the song “Let Me Love You” in the second semi-final. There they finished in tenth place, which ought to mean that they qualified for the grand final, but no. The jury decided that Sweden’s Charlotte Perelli with “Hero” should go to the final instead, thus leaving Tamara, Rade and Adrian in the semi.

All of us here at escXtra wish today’s three Eurovision birthday stars the very happiest of celebrations!!
