In May 2018 he stood alongside his follow group members to represent Bulgaria in Eurovision 2018. However, Johnny Manuel has much more of his amazing vocals to showcase! As we reported back in June, the former member of the group EQUINOX is competing in The Voice Australia. He has now booked his place in the showdown round!
Watch Johnny in the playoff round
After turning all four chairs in his audition round, Johnny was placed on the team of former Australian Eurovision star, Guy Sebastian. As is custom on The Voice, Johnny had to face off with another member of team Guy in the tense Playoffs.
The artist Johnny had to face was Wolf Winters, which was an interesting pairing when you consider a statement from Guy Sebastian. He felt that while Johnny had lots of experience, he lacked his own identity. Wolf on the other hand, had the opposite problem in that he had a solid identity but needed more experience. This of course had the makings of an intriguing pairing!
Johnny and Wolf were given songs by the artists by the artist Tones & I, Wolf singing ‘Dance Monkey’ and Johnny a cover of ‘Forever Young’. In the end, Guy choose Johnny to take through to the showdowns, going as far as to say that ‘it would be insane to not take Johnny through!’. Some strong words indeed, no doubt a vote of confidence in Johnny Manuel’s talent.
A talent show veteran!
This is not Johnny’s first step into the world of talent competitions. He previously participated on season 12 of America’s Got Talent in 2017, reaching the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, he performed an original song titled ‘Blind Faith’.
Bulgaria at Eurovision 2018
Johnny Manuel first came to the attention of us Eurovision fans in March 2018 as part of the Bulgarian act EQUINOX. Their song ‘Bones’ was well received by fans and critics alike, and after qualifying to the final they placed a respectable 14th.
