Turin 2022🇳🇱 Netherlands

S10’s “De Diepte” hits #1 in Dutch Top 40

A week after taking part at the Eurovision Song Contest, S10 has hit #1 in the Dutch charts with “De Diepte”. In the history of the contest, only eight other partaking entries claimed the top of the board in the Top 40. “De Diepte” is the first non-winning Dutch entry to accomplish this feat.

“De Diepte” follows “Arcade”

The only other Dutch entry to make it to #1 in the Top 40 is “Arcade”. The 2019 Eurovision winning entry by Duncan Laurence achieved its position after winning the contest in Tel Aviv. S10 rises to #1 in her eleventh week on the chart, climbing up from the tenth position last week.

In history, only Duncan Laurence and S10 claimed the crown in the Top 40. The other acts to accomplish it are Sandie Shaw, Cliff Richard (with both his Eurovision songs), Vicky Leandros, Brotherhood of Man, Bucks Fizz and Nicole. With that list, it means that “De Diepte” is the first non-winning Eurovision song to make #1 since “Power To All Our Friends” in 1973.

A million streams in one day

Streaming plays an important role in the Dutch charts and S10 scores well there. On the Sunday after the Grand Final, “De Diepte” became the first Dutch language song in Spotify history with over a million streams in one day. Simultaneously to hitting #1 in the Top 40, the most influential chart of the country, S10 also claimed #1 in the Single Top 100.

Success is definitely coming for 21-year old Stien den Hollander following her Eurovision adventure. “De Diepte” is her first solo single to make the charts in her home country, but at the same time, she’s also hit the charts in Belgium and Iceland.

“Space Man” the Alarmschijf

The Eurovision success doesn’t stop with just S10. Kalush Orchestra, the winners of Eurovision 2022, enter the chart at #38. Not in the chart yet, but expected to enter soon is “Space Man” by Sam Ryder. The UK entry for Turin has received the award of Alarmschijf – the ‘alarm record’ of the week. The Alarmschijf is a weekly title which goes to ‘the one to watch’. Previous 2022 singles receiving the accolade were “Supermodel” by Måneskin, “As It Was” by Harry Styles and “Bones” by Imagine Dragons.

The accolade means that “Space Man” will feature extra heavily on Dutch radio in the upcoming week. History suggests Sam Ryder will then enter the chart next week, following his immense succes in the UK chart already.

Back to S10: For the third time in six editions, the Netherlands finished in eleventh place at the Grand Final of Eurovision. “De Diepte” was the first song in Dutch to make the final since “Hemel En Aarde” in 1998. Back then, 2021 host Edsilia Rombley finished in fourth place in Birmingham.
