🇮🇱 Israel: Eden Alene releases “Feker Libi” revamp

Surprise! Another revamp!

Last week, it was confirmed that Eden Alene would be taking “Feker Libi” to the Eurovision Song Contest. Following its win, the song has undergone a slight revamp ahead of the contest.

248 songs in total were submitted to Israeli national broadcaster KAN for the Israeli national final, which was held last week.

With a huge lead in the public vote, “Feker Libi” was selected to be Israel’s entry for Rotterdam 2020. The song was written by Doron Medalie (writer of “Toy”) and Idan Raichel and features lyrics in English, Hebrew, Arabic and Amharic.

Following its win, the song has undergone a subtle revamp, which you can listen to below:

About Eden Alene

Eden Alene was born in Jerusalem in 2000 and is of Ethiopian descent, which is represented within “Feker Libi”, which translates to “my beloved” in Amharic. She currently resides in Kiryat Gat, Israel.

In 2018, she won the third season of The X Factor Israel. Later in the year she released her debut single “Better”, which reached the top 10 of the Israeli music charts. She later released a cover of the Eurovision 1976 winning “Save Your Kisses for Me”, followed by the single “When It Comes to You”.

Late last year, she was announced as one of the finalists of HaKokhav Haba L’Eurovizion 2020, which she won earlier this year. Like IMRI, Netta and Kobi Marimi before her, she won the right to represent Israel at Eurovision 2020. Unlike her predecessors, her entry was selected via HaShir HaBa L’Eurovision. As we’ve already gathered, “Feker Libi” won with over double the number of the televote points of runner-up “Roots”.

Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest

Israel has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 41 times since making its debut in 1973. The country has won the contest four times (1978, 1979, 1998, 2018), and has hosted the contest three times (1979, 1999 and 2019).

Since the introduction of the semi-finals in 2004, Israel has failed to reach the final six times. In 2005, Shiri Maimon gave the country its tenth top five result with “HaSheket SheNish’ar”, finishing fourth. Having failed to qualify for the final for four consecutive years (2011–2014), Israel reached the final with Nadav Guedj’s “Golden Boy” in 2015. Since Nadav’s ninth-place finish, Israel has qualified for every Grand Final.

Last year, Netta brought Israel it’s fourth victory, 20 years after its previous win. Her song won the televote and placed 3rd in the jury vote, amassing 529 points. The 2019 edition of the contest was hosted in Tel Aviv. Performing on home soil, Kobi Marimi’s “Home” didn’t quite reach the heights of its predecessor, placing 21st with 35 points.
