Austria to reveal Eurovision entrant “in less than a week”

A female artist "we've never seen anything like before" for Austria

Austria will announce their act for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in the upcoming days. Eurovision Scout at ORF Eberhard Forcher made the announcement on his Facebook page. Alongside with the confirmation of the imminent reveal, he gave us some more information on the artist…

Forcher: “We never had something like this before”

Eberhard Forcher has been the Eurovision scout for Austria since 2016. Under his involvement, acts like Nathan Trent, César Sampson and LUM!X were chosen to represent the Alpine nation at the biggest music event in the world.

For this year’s contest, ORF have opted for a female singer, Forcher confirmed. Aside from that tiny bit of information, he also mentioned Austria have never had “something like this before”. It is currently not clear what he means by this, but to the reaction of another Facebook user about the live vocal skills, Forcher confirms that this person shouldn’t worry about that at all.

As for the date of the reveal, all Forcher says is that the artist will be known in “a little under a week”. Last year, the country announced LUM!X as their entrant on a Tuesday morning. A reveal on the Ö3 Hitradio may therefore not be unlikely.

Last year, Pia Maria joined LUM!X on stage in Turin to perform “Halo” at Eurovision 2022. They however failed to qualify for the Grand Final of the contest. Austria have won Eurovision twice, in 1966 and in 2014.
