Delegations reiterate NO decision has been taken in regards to Eurovision 2020

Since the EBU’s latest statement on the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest published yesterday afternoon, several unofficial sources have been claiming that a decision has been taken in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. Most of these sources claim that Eurovision is due to be postponed until May 2021. Nevertheless, multiple participating delegations, including Bulgaria, have confirmed that no decision has been taken yet.

Yesterday, the EBU confirmed that several different elements were being considered in regards to how and when the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest would take place. The Bulgarian delegation has reiterated that this is the latest information available and that no further decisions have been taken.

Rumours are just rumours

Numerous options are believed to be on the table with a postponement to late summer currently being the rumour of choice for those who believe Eurovision will take place sometime this year. Others believe Eurovision will not return until May 2021. Further rumours suggest that smaller broadcasters have turned down the original “plan B” of filming performances in national TV studios.

Decision likely in the coming days

Nevertheless, as things stand, the EBU is still discussing which option to take in regards to the hosting of the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest and no further decisions have been made. Whilst no timeline has been specified, it is likely a further announcement will be made prior to the next ticket sale due to take place on March 26th.
