RAI reveal thirty Festival di Sanremo 2024 entrants

Italian broadcaster RAI have revealed the entrants taking part in the 74th Festival di Sanremo. 27 artists were revealed on RAI Uno. Together with three Sanremo Giovani entrants, they will make up a field of no less than thirty entrants. All of which will be performed on the first night in February…

Following in the footsteps of Marco Mengoni

One of the thirty acts will win the right to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö, Sweden. In the past couple of years, the winner of Sanremo has accepted the honour of flying the tricolore at Eurovision, but that has not always been the case. Most recently, Stadio turned down the honour in 2016 in favour of Francesca Michielin.

Festival di Sanremo started back in 1951 and can safely be seen as the mother of all Eurovision events. It has so far produced two Eurovision winners, with Gigliola Cinquetti’s “Non ho l’età” in 1964 and Måneskin’s “Zitti e buoni” in 2021. Last year, Marco Mengoni scored his second Sanremo victory. His “Due Vite” eventually finished in fourth place at the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool.

1978 Eurovision entrants Ricchi e Poveri are also back, following the newly won cult status of their 1980s hit single “Sarà perche ti amo”.
