Tim Bergling, better known as Avicii, has passed away. The 28 year old Swedish producer and DJ died of unknown causes in Muscat, Oman today.
Avicii and Eurovision
For the Eurovision Song Contest 2013, Avicii was asked to co-compose and produce the official anthem for the contest. It took place in Malmö, Sweden that year. The song, “We Write The Story”, was written by Avicii, as well as Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson of ABBA.
The song was used during the flag parage which opened the Grand Final at the Eurovision Song Contest. After the contest, it briefly charted in The Netherlands.
Record making producer
Avicii was one of the most influential DJs and producers of the past decade. He had worldwide fame with songs as “Hey Brother” and “Wake Me Up”. In both 2012 and 2013, DJ Mag ranked him the third best DJ in the world. He has also received two Grammy nominations and a few Billboard Music Awards nominations. Just three days ago, he posted on Twitter to thank Billboard for their nomination.
Avicii’s publicist Diana Baron released the following statement to Billboard today:
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.
